Fahrije Kelmendi was born in 1967 in Koshtovë, during a difficult time to live and succeed in Kosovo. Later, she married in Lipë, Zvecan, and had two children. Married life was not easy financially for her. Life in Kosovo before and after the war was difficult, especially for people living in rural areas who tried to support their families with agricultural work. Fahrije tried her best to help support her family until 2019 when she decided to apply to IADK for a grant to win a greenhouse. After reviewing her application, IADK decided that she met the necessary criteria to win the grant.
Since winning the greenhouse from IADK and receiving adequate support through all the steps from [[NT8]'s specialists, Mrs. Fahrije has managed to cultivate and grow green lettuce and spinach, sell it in markets, farms, and businesses, and help her family generate income.
Fahrija is a beneficiary of the project "Supporting Social Entrepreneurship and Promoting Socio-Economic Empowerment in Minority Communities in Kosovo," a project supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), implemented by IADK and DRC.
"Now, having the greenhouse and practical advice, I have the opportunity to grow the business, be more sustainable in the market, and cultivate various vegetables. Now I am quite stable, my family is living in better conditions, and I have become more independent thanks to the support received from this project," said Ms. Kelmendi.
