In the mountains of Istog and Peja, where mountain families live in their mountain huts throughout the summer, you can now visit for more. You can travel back in time, spend the night in the so-called ten (10) shepherds' huts, traditional foods at nine (9) rest spots, or experience nature at five (5) campsites in the most beautiful spots of the Accursed Mountains, established by the project.
The mountainous inhabitants of Istog and Peja, and the ancient pastoral traditions they practice, which have changed little from modern life, are a treasure for Kosovo's tourism. The mountain huts in these mountains, besides an impressive landscape and traditional culinary delicacies, also offer an additional convenience, that of electricity.
Tourists who choose to spend time in one of the 56 huts supported by IADK with solar systems can top up their phones or GPS devices without needing to bring additional equipment. This type of activity is perfect for those who enjoy a slow, simple, yet authentic life for the highland people of Kosovo.
Local and international tourists can enjoy this entire tourist package developed by the project along the thematic cross-border trail (Stane Roads) of 100 km, which has been signed, marked, and marked, as well as digitized. This trail starts in the mountains of the Istog municipality, continues to those of the Peja municipality, and then connects with the mountains of Montenegro. This trail connects the mountain huts and local families who offer tourist services, which have been supported by the project through the distribution of grants and professional assistance, aiming to develop mountain tourism and generate income.
Therefore, as the final activity of the project, IADK, on October 6 and 7, organized the project's promotional expedition (FAM Trip), with journalists, tour operators, international tourists, and stakeholders interested in mountain tourism development who already have similar products and services in their offerings. This expedition was a two-day trip, visiting the mountains of both municipalities and including an overnight stay in the mountain pastures of Istog. Exposure to the ancient tradition of Transhumance (shepherd huts) will help them also include the offer of mountain pastures, with the aim of promoting this tradition as much as possible.
