It is named after the Šar Mountains, where it accounts for 24% of the total number of sheep in Kosovo. It belongs to the group of short-tailed sheep and is believed to have originated from the European "muflon," but it is believed to have blood from the steppe sheep (ovis vignei). It belongs to the group of small, short-wool sheep, with a neck height of about 62 cm and a weak chest depth and width. Sheep have a body mass of 30-35 kg, while rams weigh up to 45 kg. The fertility rate is low and around 110%. The average weight of lambs at breeding ranges from 2.5 to 3.5 kg. In 3 months, lambs reach a weight of 18-22 kg.
The meat yield reaches about 44%, and the meat of this sheep (lamb) is of high quality and tasty. This sheep is completely white, the wool is white, its head is not furry, but the head and lower parts of the legs are covered with white hair. Since it has completely white wool, it is quite suitable for selection for wool production intended for use in the textile industry. Wool production reaches 1.5-2 kg, with a yarn thickness of 37 microns. Milk production is about 80 kg at 200-day lactation with 6.5% fat.
