Since In the oldest times, Kosovar families migrated with their livestock to the areas mountainous, (or in the Mountains as they are known here), in the spring season for to remain until the beginning of the autumn season. This tradition has been practiced in in order to fully utilize natural resources while preserving biodiversity and local ecology. While livestock feed on pastures in mountainous areas, their movement increasesthe fertility of the lands they cross because Their feces fertilize the area. At the same time, clean air and mountains create a necessary break from the pollution of urban areas.
This tradition is still practiced in Kosovo, among others in the Accursed Mountains and the region of Podguri. This practice is internationally known as Transhumance, which derives from the Spanish word (Transhumancia) derives definitively from Latin trans (beyond) and humus (soil). As long as Transhumance has previously been widely practiced around the world, this practice has almost disappeared in developed countries. The fact that still is practiced in Kosovo, increases the beauty of the mountains, and tourists are more interested in visiting Kosovo and observing farmers practicing this authentic tradition and livestock in their natural habitat.
For contributed to the development of sustainable mountain tourism, IADK is currently implements the "Transhumance - a new tourism offer of Kosovo and Montenegro," which is funded by the European Union through the cross-border cooperation program IPA between Montenegro and Kosovo. The scope of the project includesthe Peja region and Istog, mainly the mountains that inspire these two regions.
Within the framework of the project activities, today, on the date 22.07.2021, the following have been signed contracts with 15 shepherd hut owners selected by the municipality of Peja for support with solar systems. Beneficiaries will be supported with systems solar panels, of which 6 are high capacity and 9 are high capacity small.
During
the signing of contracts by the Executive Director of IADK, Mr. Zenel Bunjaku, as
and the Mayor of the Municipality of Peja, Mr. Gazmend Muhaxheri, motivated the beneficiaries to
to continuously dedicate themselves to preserving tradition and to engage as much as possible
many tourist services (accommodation, food preparation and storage)
and meeting the demands of both domestic and foreign tourists, because
It is a promising sector that continues to grow

Director of IADK's Zenel Bunjaku, during the ceremony, added that the Municipality of Peja is a leader as much as it belongs to the development and promotion of tourism, which as a field is more perspective on the future, he also thanked all participants for the tireless work during this time.
